In May 1903, with an idea of the queen of Siam (the present Thailand) and support of the Japanese minister to Siam, 8 students came to study in Japan. Our school admitted four female students, and developed a special curriculum and teaching staff for their education. Also, a dormitory was established in Hongo Yushima, where the housemistress Saki Kitami and a teacher Sen Amemori lived together with the students to provide daily guidance.
Four students extended their stay for one year, and three completed their education in March 1907, while one unfortunately got ill and had to leave earlier. After their return, they promoted and actively engaged with women's education in their country.
They learned Japanese, science, mathematics, embroidery, flower arrangement, and drawing. Their works were viewed by the Empress Shoken.
The materials introduced here are results of their studies, with a focus on their artwork.
